It's Thursday!!!
I know, I know. I'm a little too excited
about it being Thursday. I mean it's not like it’s FRIDAY or anything. Except
for me...it kinda is. I'm taking a few days "off" to spend time with
my family and get some writing done, but I'll be back in full swing on
September 3rd.
Which brings me to my topic for today:
Labor Day Weekend. The time-honored tradition of celebrating workers
throughout America by giving everyone a day off. I'm sure you’re all very
appreciative of your employer’s generosity, right? That's what I thought.
What else does Labor Day signify? Here
are some things I've come up with.
- Symbolizes the end of summer. School is back in session. Here in the South, this is the last weekend most public pools are open. It's the end of sizzling hot days and equally warm nights. No more burning your asses on hot car seats, breath-sucking humidity and, according to my dear friend and fellow erotic romance author Mandy Harbin, no more ruining a good makeup job, “unless streak lines from sweat is your thang.” The cold is coming people. Get ready for it.
- No more white. Yeah, well, I don't usually wear white anyway so it's not a problem for me. I always wondered what would happen if I busted out some white in October. Would the fashion police jump out of the bushes and arrest me? Throw me in a purple cell (cause no white after Labor Day *shakes finger*) and make me watch reruns of What Not to Wear? (no offense WNTW people). Hmm.
- Oh God. Here it comes. Football. Yep, it's that time again ladies. Time for you to become widows to large men in tight pants. Crazy, right? I'm married to an ex-athlete/sports fanatic, so the start of football season isn't that significant in my house. It just means I'm listening to ESPN spout about football scores instead of baseball scores. Or, as the case will be for a month or so, both. I do enjoy playing fantasy football though. My husband and I play on separate leagues, and I take great pleasure in reminding him I've taken second both years I've played. For those lovely men in my league who smack-talked my choices the last two seasons...I give you a respectful "suck it" and good luck in our draft this Sunday.
Now I’ve run on too long and
it’s time to get back to work. I’m curious…what does Labor Day mean to you?
Go ahead, leave me a comment
and let me know. Don’t be afraid. I don’t bite. Much.
Happy Reading!

Labor day means the end of Lake fun. Boats are put in storage, docks are brought up on land, furniture is all covered in sheets and we say goodbye to the Lake until the next year. Now we prepare for winter inside, reading, reading and more reading. Thanks Parker for the great book.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Carole! I hope One Night Stand give you something to help keep you warm at night! :)
